BirdLife International
BirdLife International is a global Partnership of conservation
organisations that strives to conserve birds, their habitats and global
biodiversity, working with people towards sustainability in the use of
natural resources. BirdLife Partners operate in over one hundred
countries and territories worldwide.
Natuurpunt
The aim of Natuurpunt
(partner of Birdlife International) is
to
protect the remaining nature in Flanders through buying and managing
land, protecting species, running
awareness programs for a general and specific public and lobbying local
and regional governments. The work of volunteers and the support of
the regional government is
essential for acquiring, managing and monitoring our nature reserves.
The input of the volunteers ensures the involvement of the local
communities in our projects. Natuurpunt
has around 70,000 members.
Nature For All
Natuurpunt tries to open all nature reserves to the public
including disabled persons by guiding them along trails and to bird
hides. All
disclosed reserves are free of entrance fees. Natuurpunt has
working groups on lots of aspects of
nature study: birds, amphibians and reptiles, bats and other mammals,
plants and insects. Volunteers and professionals are monitoring species
and habitats in and outside our nature reserves. The policy department
of Natuurpunt is trying to
influence the political agenda on structural planning, dune, forest and
water management, agriculture and the protection of Natura 2000 and
Ramsar sites. Volunteers form the heart of the organisation. We train
and inform our active volunteers in the village
councils about important nature laws.
Natuurpunt has a very active educational department, runs a museum
at Turnhout and tries to involve pupils in the management
of nature. This includes a lecture, a work day and a visit to the
reserve when the results are there. Species protection
programs on Bats, White and Black Stork and
Hamster
aim to involve a large number of the general public in the
protection of nature.
Natuurpunt Leuven
Natuurpunt Leuven is a division of Natuurpunt, active in the city of
Leuven. Our nature reserve projects (>> Natuurgebieden) are Wijgmaalbroek,
Lovenarenbroek
and Koeheide.
There is also an inner-city project which is the opening of the flow of
the Dijle.
Our local species protection programs include a swift and swallow
project and a peregrine
falcon project. Our public activities are grouped in a
calandar (>> Activiteitenkalender).
Pictures of these activities can be seen in our photo album.
